Day 3: Visit the Paramo, a Wonderful Mountain Destination in Venezuela
On this hike, you’ll be able to see the Andean paramos, one of the world’s most unique mountainous ecosystems. This place is very well-known for its exotic vegetation like the frailejón plant, for its beautiful views, and for its relatively low temperatures (18°C/-2°C). The hike starts at 07:30 a.m. after a generous local breakfast. It’s a 4-hour ride on a mule to Alto de la Cruz, that is the highest point at 4,200 m. above sea level (The mules will carry your luggage up to this point); and then, a 3-hour walk up to your destination, a mountain hut at 2,600 m. Once there, your guide will cook something for you. It is important for you to know that altitude sickness might be an issue for some people. In this case, your guide must find you an easier path which will also be as astonishing and beautiful as the main one.
Accommodation: At Pedro's mountain hut. Cold water and no electricity.
Communication: Partial mobile network.
