The following detailed itinerary is just an overview of some of our available activities among many others. Remeber you might be able to make some modifications to the current tourist programme based upon your personal preferences.

Merida, Venezuelan Andes
Day 1: Arrival in Venezuela and Transfer to The Andes

Once your international flight arrives in Caracas, claim you luggage at the carousel. After going through customs, follow the transit flight sign until you get to the national airport, and check in at the counter; it will take you about 10 minutes to go from the international flights area to the national one. Our driver is going to pick you up at the airport in El Vigia city and take you directly to your posada (a sort of inn) in Merida (1h30- 2h).

Day 2: Discover the Most Beautiful Small Villages in the Andes

Day 2: Discover the most beautiful small villages in the Andes On this trip, you’re going to visit Los Nevados, a picturesque andean village hidden among breathtaking high mountains. Walking around this unchanged 16th century village feels like you’re back in the Spanish colonial era. For this trip, pack the necessary items for 3 days, and make sure to leave some extra ones at your posada in Mérida. Our trip starts at 08:00 a.m. in a 4X4 Toyota vehicle. Your guide is going to take you to the most beautiful and isolated Andean villages in the Andes. After 3 hours on a rough, unpaved road (60km) and several stops to watch the magnificent scenery, you'll finally reach Los Nevados village. Once there, your guide will be willing to take you for a walk or for ride on a mule around the village.
Meals: (-L-D) at your local family.
Accommodation: Posada Jerez, a simple, rustic and cosy inn. Thick blankets, hot water and electricity.

Paramo in Merida, Venezuela
Day 3: Visit the Paramo, a Wonderful Mountain Destination in Venezuela

On this hike, you’ll be able to see the Andean paramos, one of the world’s most unique mountainous ecosystems. This place is very well-known for its exotic vegetation like the frailejón plant, for its beautiful views, and for its relatively low temperatures (18°C/-2°C). The hike starts at 07:30 a.m. after a generous local breakfast. It’s a 4-hour ride on a mule to Alto de la Cruz, that is the highest point at 4,200 m. above sea level (The mules will carry your luggage up to this point); and then, a 3-hour walk up to your destination, a mountain hut at 2,600 m. Once there, your guide will cook something for you. It is important for you to know that altitude sickness might be an issue for some people. In this case, your guide must find you an easier path which will also be as astonishing and beautiful as the main one.

Sierra Nevada National Park, Venezuela
Day 4: Return to Tabay

Your return to Tabay starts at around 08:30 am; however, this may be subject to change, depending on your decision or weather conditions. The small footpath goes downhill on an amazing four-hour walk through a lush and humid forest to your final destination. On your way back to town, your tour guide may suggest an hour detour in order to see some lovely glacial lakes. Once you’re back in Tabay, a driver will finally pick you up and take you to your posada in Mérida, the same location you stayed overnight for the first time.

Paragliding in the Andes, Merida, Venezuela
Day 5: Paragliding

Today you’ll have a free morning to rest and get ready for a week full of excitement. Besides, it is a good moment to visit this Andean city. In the afternoon you’ll be able make your dream come true: going paragliding over the Andes! With no prior tandem paragliding experience, you can soar over the beautiful Andean mountains and valleys with a professional certified pilot. Getting to the take-off site takes around one hour, and the flight takes between 20 and 40 minutes. Your guide will pick you up from your posada and take you to take-off site in the early afternoon. You’ll be coming back at around 6:30pm.

Canyoning in the Andes, Venezuela
Day 6: Canyoning

Another day full of fun! With the help of an expert, rappel down a 35-meter tall waterfall, jump into nice swimming holes and slip and slide down a flat rock water slide into a plunge pool below. You’ll experience lots of fun and excitement. We’ll leave at 8:30am and come back to your posada (inn) in the afternoon. Lunch will be served by the place where you will be going canyoning.

Rafting in Barinas, Venezuela
Day 7 : Rafting

We’ll leave Mérida at 7:00am and drive towards the city of Barinas. We’ll go over the Andean mountain range along a curvy road at an altitude of 3,500 metres above sea level. The whole trip to Barinas takes around 3 hours (134km) and then we’ll drive down to the Acequia River that is one hour away from Barinas (100 km.). Lunch will be served at camp. With the help of an expert we’ll first start rafting downriver on white-water rapids rated on a scale of II to III. The first hour will be just to warm up. We’ll spend overnight in tents on the riverbank.

The Acequias River, Venezuela
Day 8 : Rafting and Transfert to Merida

After a large breakfast, we’ll start our second descent. We’ll go rafting down the Sinigue River for around 3 hours. Rapids here are rated on a scale of IV and V. It will be an extraordinary and unforgettable experience down the rushing water and through lush vegetation on both sides of the river. We’ll go back to camp to have lunch and then we’ll drive all the way back to Mérida (5 hours, 234 km).

Mountain Biking in the Andes, Venezuela
Day 9: Mountain Biking

At 8:30am we’ll get in a 4WD and leave for the mountains where we’ll be biking this morning. For sure it’s going to be an incredible day full of excitement. You will also have a qualified guide who will take you to the most beautiful places in the Andean mountain range. Later, we’ll stop to have a picnic-style lunch in the middle of nature. We’ll go back to Mérida at the end of the day.

Bungee-jumping in Merida, Venezuela
Day 10: Riding a Zip-Line and Bungee Jumping

This final day of adventure you’ll be riding a zip-line in the morning, and you’ll go bungee-jumping from a bridge in Mérida in the afternoon.

Day 11: Catch your Flight Home!

You'll be transferred from Merida to EL Vigia airport by car (1 hour 1/2, 70km). Then, you’ll take a flight to Caracas where you can catch your international flight. We recommend being at the check-in counter 5 hours before your international flight in Caracas.

Travel organization:
Our programmes are individually organised in terms of dates and content. However, our tours are not fully private, so you could meet other travellers at different stages of your trip.
What to Bring?
Hat; sunscreen; water bottle; hike pants; insect repellent; headlamp; raincoat; passport copy; sleeping bag liner; you don’t need big, heavy or cumbersome shoes, but good trainers (orienteering shoes); plastic bags to keep water away from electronic devices; first-aid-kit; polar fleece jacket; bath towel.
Further Advice:
Don't forget your travel insurance! You can benefit from the travel cancellation insurance offered by your credit-card company when paying for your tourist package at our point of sale. You must get neither a visa nor vaccination to come to Venezuela. However, Franbrasil Tour’s C.A. recommends you should get the yellow fever vaccine and the preventive treatment of malaria. You also need to have a valid passport for at least six months before arriving in Venezuela, and you have to carry it with you when travelling within the country.
